Rebuilding Reefs: V-Corals & The OCEAN CITIZEN Restoration Project

We are proud to share our active role in OCEAN CITIZEN, one of the largest eco-restoration initiatives to date.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, OCEAN CITIZEN is a multi-year project dedicated to the restoration of Marine Animal Forests (MAFs). From the volcanic depths of Tenerife, Spain, to the Red Sea, this project is pioneering a replicable “underwater gardening” protocol.

Restoration at sea begins on land. Leveraging our expertise in indoor coral farming, our facilities serve as critical experiment grounds. We stabilize, study, and prepare corals, to ensure they will succeed in the ocean.

Collective Innovation in Action

Collaboration is the heartbeat of OCEAN CITIZEN. To support all partners goals of rebuilding subtropic coral reefs, we have provided several of our products and solutions for testing. These tools are being used to optimize growth and stability for various coral species and families.

Empowering “Gardeners of the Sea”

Beyond the technology, we are deeply involved in the project’s public engagement efforts. OCEAN CITIZEN isn’t just for scientists; it’s for the community. We are helping to build a framework where local citizens and tourists can become “Underwater Gardeners,” participating directly in the stewardship and monitoring of their local reefs.

The Vision Ahead

Stay tuned as we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in marine restoration.
